The Vicksburg Convention Center is ready to take you back in time.
The VCC will be hosting the 5th annual Ritz on the River July 19 and this year’s theme is Retro Prom.
“Last year was the first time we themed it because it was our 20th anniversary celebration,” said Annette Kirklin, the executive director of the VCC. “There was a big push for us to theme it again this year so we did. Hopefully people will show up in their retro attire.”
While much of the decor and the music will be 80s themed, Kirklin said anything retro will do whether that is from the 70s, 80s or even the 90s.
The event will start at 6:30 p.m. with dinner before the entertainment for the evening, The Molly Ringwalds, begin playing at 8 p.m. Kirklin said the 450 tickets for dinner are already sold out, but more than 100 tickets remain for those who want to attend just the concert.
“It is a great sit down steak dinner and each dinner attendee will receive a couple of retro gifts,” Kirklin said. “For those that have general admission show tickets, the doors will open at 7:30 p.m.”
The annual event supports the VCC and this year a portion of the revenue will be donated to Jacobs Ladder Learning Center. The VCC has also partnered with The Ivy Place to create flashing corsages and boutonnieres that can be ordered in advance and picked up the night of. The corsages cost $12 and the boutonnieres are $7 and $2 from each purchase will be donated to Jacobs Ladder.
“We are very excited to be partnered with the Ivy Place,” Kirklin said. “If the whole room is fill of that, if you have epilepsy it might be bad because there are going to be flashes everywhere. They are so cool.”
Tickets to watch The Molly Ringwalds are $20 in advance and $25 on the night of. They can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or at the Vicksburg Convention Center Box Office. The Molly Ringwalds are originally from England and play a collection of 80s song while dressed in costumes of popular 80s icons such as Pee Wee Herman.
“The are very interactive and what they do is they have the videos of the songs they are playing above their heads,” Kirklin said. “The room last year was amazing with the 20s theme and this year a lot of the room is going to look 80s with a lot of neat surprises.”
