Janice Bower Arnold, age 83, of South Hill, Va., died Sunday, June 10, 2018.

She spent her formative years in Vicksburg and graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, where she was a member of Phi Mu Social Sorority, Alpha Psi Omega-National Theater Honorary, Millsaps Players, Millsaps Singers and the Purple and White Newspaper Staff.

Once moving to South Hill, Va., Mrs. Arnold became active in the South Hill Junior Woman’s Club, the Hillcrest Garden Club, the South Hill Presbyterian Church and the CMH Auxiliary, where she also served on the CMH Auxiliary Board for over 25 years. Mrs. Arnold also loved reading, gardening, traveling and flower arranging.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Raymond T. “R.T.” Arnold of South Hill, Va.; her three daughters, Sheri A. Sparkman and her husband, Mike, of South Hill, Va., Laurie L. Arnold and her partner, Sarah Figuly of Richmond and Julie A. Witten and her husband, Darrin of Erie, Colo.; her five grandchildren, Kelli Rae Sparkman Caley, Scott Arnold Sparkman, Steven Thomas Sparkman, Jacob Thomas Witten and Jessica Leigh Witten; her newborn great-granddaughter, Sloane Piper Caley; her sister, Sally B. Reeves of Dallas, Texas; and her two brothers, William B. Bower of Clinton and James R. Bower of Vicksburg.

A celebration of life service will be conducted Saturday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at the South Hill Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow in the church social hall. A private interment will take place at Crestview Memorial Park.
