To the editor:

The Friends of the Vicksburg Bridge would like to thank the Warren County Board of Supervisors for passing an important resolution on a 4-1 vote at its June 6, 2018 meeting.

The resolution was passed after weeks of thoughtful deliberation and states, “that the Vicksburg Bridge Commission is hereby requested to take such actions as it deems reasonable and appropriate to open the 18-foot wide roadway for pedestrian and bicycle traffic on a daily basis and such other special events, all with appropriate rules and regulations governing such activities as  the Commission determines in its discretion to be appropriate, which discretion remains subject to oversight by this Board.”

The Supervisors appoint all five members of the Bridge Commission who handle the operation of the bridge under the policy and guidance of the Supervisors.

The Friends of the Bridge appreciate this all-important “first step” in opening the bridge, and stand ready to furnish any support and assistance that the Bridge Commissioners may need as they meet to discuss implementing the Supervisors’ directive.
