HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Police in a south Mississippi city are searching for a man they say shot a police officer in the leg.
Hattiesburg Police spokesman Ryan Moore says the officer was shot Monday while trying to serve a search warrant on a house.
Moore says police believe Victor Kirksey shot the officer.
Moore says the officer is recovering and likely to be released from a hospital Monday.
Law enforcement agencies say Kirksey ran into a wooded area.
Police say they believe Kirksey is armed and dangerous and warn people to stay away.
It’s the second time someone shot at a Hattiesburg officer in recent days. Someone shot at multiple officers while fleeing early Saturday morning.
Police searched unsuccessfully for hours.
Moore says police don’t know if the shootings are related.
