A woman has been arrested following a high-speed chase that started on Interstate 20 and ended on Grove Street in front of the driver’s license office.
Mississippi High Patrol Cpl. Kervin Stewart said Sheila D. Thomas, 43, of Edwards was arrested following the chase.
Stewart said officers were running traffic radar around the Big Black River and the Hinds and Warren County line around 2:55 p.m. when they clocked Thomas traveling westbound going 110 miles per hour.
“Once he (the MHP trooper) caught up with her, the suspect failed to yield and was passing vehicles on the shoulder,” Stewart said. “She eventually made it to the Vicksburg city limits.”
Stewart said Thomas exited Interstate 20 at the Clay Street exit and as soon as she exited MHP terminated its chase and the Vicksburg Police Department took over.
“Once she got to the city limits, we terminated our pursuit, but had advised Vicksburg 911 that we were in a pursuit,” Stewart said. “Vicksburg PD made contact with the vehicle on Clay Street near the Hampton Inn and continued the pursuit, which ended in front of the driver’s license office off of Grove Street.”
Stewart said Thomas exited her car in front of the driver’s license building and was arrested following a brief foot chase before being taken to Merit Health River Region for medical evaluation.
“No one was hurt and no vehicles were damaged,” Stewart said.
Thomas will face charges including speeding and reckless driving Stewart said.
