BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Officials say two people were killed when their vehicle tried to cross a Jackson County highway.

A spokesman for the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Chase Elkins, says in a press release that an 89-year-old man and his female passenger died in the crash.

Elkins says it appears the two were in a Ford Ranger that was trying to drive across Mississippi 63 when they were struck by a Dodge Ram.

The Dodge hit the passenger side of the Ford and both vehicles ended up on the right side of the road.

The driver of the Ford and the passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver refused treatment. Elkins said the 89-year-old man was not wearing his seat belt.
