Janice Marie Mayfield passed away on Friday, Aug. 17, in Merit Health Central Mississippi Medical Center following a brief illness. She was 61. 

She had worked as a cook for Millsap’s College and was a former member of the New Rock of Ages M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James H. and Alice Dotson Mayfield, Jr.; her maternal grandparents, Gadi and Reva Dotson and paternal grandparents, James H. and Estella Mayfield, Sr.

She is survived by her fiancé, Donald Weathersby of Jackson; her sons, Patrick Mayfield of Vicksburg and Kelvin Louis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her daughter, Bridgette Mayfield of Jackson; her brothers, James H. Mayfield, III, John Russell Mayfield and Kenneth Mayfield, all of Vicksburg, and Roosevelt Smith of Chicago; her sisters, Cherry Epps of Detroit, Michigan, Theresa Farrell of San Bernardino, California , Jennifer Mayfield of Vicksburg, Francine Mayfield of Detroit, Michigan, Lisa Mayfield of Vicksburg, and Joyce Ann Mayfield, also of Vicksburg; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and an aunt, Estella Mayfield Crawford, of Vicksburg.

A memorial service is to be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Horace Allen officiating.
