Leo Boolos Jr.

Leo Boolos Jr., 98, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30 in Oxford. He was the son of the late Leo and Naseema Boolos. Leo grew up in Clarksdale, where he graduated from Clarksdale High School. He voluntarily joined the US Air Force in January of 1943 and served in Group Operations of the 416th bomb Group, 9th Air Force in the US for a year and then the European Theater of Operations until October of 1946. He was discharged as a Master Sergeant.
Following World War II, Boolos graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1947. He began his career as a Certified Public Accountant at Haskins and Sells in New Orleans and moved to Vicksburg in November of 1949 to open his own practice. Boolos officially retired in 2006, but continued to advise in the field. He was inducted into the Ole Miss Patterson School of Accountancy Hall of Fame in 2004.
Boolos was active in the Vicksburg community holding leadership positions in various organizations. He was a founding member of the Vicksburg United Way, a 20-year member of the local American Red Cross board, Chamber of Commerce, Vicksburg Ole Miss Alumni Club, and Civitan Club. Boolos was the longest tenured member (61 years) of the Rotary Club of Vicksburg at the time of his death. He was one of the first two Paul Harris Fellows of the club in 1980.
A member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church since 1949, Boolos served on many church committees, was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and Friendship Sunday school Class. Boolos was also a member of the Wood College Board of Trustees for 19 years, and served as a board member for Riggs Manor Retirement Home through the United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Jacqueline McKean Boolos, and brothers William H. and Joseph D. Boolos. He is survived by his three children, David (Kay) Boolos of Vicksburg, Steve (Wally) Boolos of Seattle, Washington, and Marylyle Boolos of Germantown, Tennessee. He leaves his grandchildren, Amy (Tony) Jackson and Ashley (Jeff) Davidson of Vicksburg and great-grandchildren, Jonathan Jackson, Drew Jackson, Addison Jackson, Ryan Davidson, Holden Davidson and Reed Davidson.
Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 3 from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 at Crawford Street United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church or Leo Boolos Scholarship Fund, University of Mississippi Foundation, 406 University Ave, Oxford, MS 38655.
Pallbearers will be Todd Boolos, Paul Boolos, Jeff Davidson, Tony Jackson, Jonathan Jackson and Drew Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Little, Mack Varner, Ken Rector, Peter Mims, Hugh Green and Charles Marascalco.
