NATCHEZ — Natchez can expect another British invasion on Saturday.
This invasion, however, won’t be of 1960s rock ’n‘ roll. Instead, it will be an invasion of vintage British cars.
The Mississippi English Motoring Club will host the 20th “Brits on The Bluff,” British car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Broadway Street on the Natchez Bluff next to Rosalie’s Bicentennial Gardens.
Organizers say visitors can expect to see between 30 and 50 examples of vintage British cars such as MGs, Triumphs, Austin-Healeys and Jaguars.
Event organizer Terry Trovato of Natchez said the motoring club has been sponsoring British car shows on the bluff for a couple of decades.
“We started out with six cars and sat around in a circle talking to each other,” Trovato said of the first event. “About 15 years after that we had 60 cars.”
Trovato said British car owners come to the event from not only within Mississippi but also from surrounding states, including Texas and Louisiana.
The Mississippi English Motoring Club, Trovato said, has 75 members, mostly from the Jackson area.
“They like to come in a convoy on the Natchez Trace,” Trovato said, adding the members also like visiting Natchez, shopping and staying in the city’s hotels.
Trovato said he expects approximately 33 to 55 cars to be at Saturday’s show, depending on the weather.
Prizes will be awarded based on participants’ votes for best in brand — MG, Triumph, Jaguar, etc. — and an overall best in show, Trovato said
The event is free and open to the public. A registration event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bowie’s Tavern, 100 Main St., Natchez and visitors are welcome to come to the registration and meet members and possibly get an early glimpse of some of the vehicles.
