Max Evans

Max Evans, 88, passed from this life Sept. 30, 2018, while surrounded by his family.
Max was born in Cruger, Mississippi, a son of the late James William and Cleo Evelyn Evans.
He was a graduate of Redwood High School in 1950, and attended Hinds Junior College.
He retired in 1993 from Westinghouse/Cooper Industries after more than 35 years of service.
He and his wife enjoyed camping with the Vicksburg chapter of the Red Carpet Camping Club. He loved hunting and fishing at his family’s camp, Glory.
He was an active member for 59 years at Immanuel Baptist. He served faithfully as a deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and in many other church programs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Erma Sadler Evans; son, Max E. Evans Jr.; grandson, Joshua Evans; brothers, Billy, Kenneth, Raymond, and Van Evans; sister, Cleo Harrison; and brother-in-law, Ronald Harrison. He will be greatly missed by his son, Gregory Evans (Jo); daughters, Evelyn Martin (Bill) and Nancy Goldman (Robert); brother, Leroy Evans (Sue); nine grandchildren, Jessica Cockroft, Brannon Jones, Taylor Jones, Paula Kirby, Chad Gordy, Krystal Loftin, Keith Evans, Katie Safley, and Jon Robert Goldman; and 20 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Riles Funeral Home.
Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, visitation will be at Immanuel Baptist Church from 9 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brannon Jones, Taylor Jones, John Robert Goldman, Chad Gordy, Ian Loftin, and Gene Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church.
