Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant will visit Opportunity Zones in Vicksburg and Jackson Thursday.
Carson and Bryant are expected to tour the Vicksburg Sawmill, 1725 North Washington St., at approximately 10:30 a.m. They will also tour Operation Shoestring in Jackson Thursday afternoon.
President Donald Trump signed the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, creating Opportunity Zones to stimulate long-term investments in low-income communities. The program offers capital gains tax relief to those who invest in these distressed areas.
Last week, President Trump named Secretary Carson chairman of the Opportunity and Revitalization Council.
