Supervisors discuss road paving projects in informal meeting

During their Monday informal meeting, the Warren County Board of Supervisors discussed the Riverfront paving project with county engineer John McKee, as well as city attorney Nancy Thomas and South Ward alderman Alex Monsour.
The city and county jointly maintain the park.
Probable cost estimates on the project varied widely with Stantec estimating it would cost approximately $241,000, while an estimate to the city was as much as $379,000.
With such a wide difference in estimated cost and the fact the city included the project with other paving projects in order to keep material cost down, Monsour asked to table the Riverfront paving project and remove it from the city projects for now.
“We need to move forward with the other city projects,” Monsour said.
The supervisors agreed.
The board also discussed other county paving projects, including spring resurfacing and gravel roads.
When asked, McKee said it generally costs around $50,000 per mile to place DBST material on a gravel road.
The supervisors said several factors need to be taken into account on which roads need to be resurfaced or gravel roads surfaced before decisions will be made.
State aid and county projects in the program stage were also discussed.
McKee said they were hoping to hear this week if the county will get funding for projects they submitted to the state, in particular Ballground Road and Freetown Road. Those two projects are a combined estimated $1 million. The county has submitted a total of five projects at an estimated cost of $2,143,900 to the state.
“If they just fund that one project (Ballground Road), that will free up all the resurfacing and adding some other resurfacing and striping,” McKee said.
The board is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 9 a.m., in their boardroom on the third floor of the Warren County Courthouse.
