Everette Wayne Herrington passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, in his home in Edwards, surrounded by his loving family. Everette was born on April 11, 1944; he was 74 years old.
A native of DeSoto, Mississippi, Everette was the son of the late Lee Herrington and Leola Ivy Herrington Roberts. Everette retired from Chevron USA as an electrical engineer after 32 years of service. Everette was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vicksburg where he enjoyed services as well as visiting with his fellow church members. Everette wore many hats from Everette and E.W. to Daddy, Dad, and Papaw. He loved all things outdoors and enjoyed a variety of hobbies in and around his home. He was especially fond of tending to his rose garden. He also enjoyed woodworking, attending concerts, both national and international travel, football, baseball, NASCAR, and George Jones. The thing Everette enjoyed the most was spending time with his family. He never failed to lend an ear and give a hug while lovingly calling the kids “Sugar” or “Skeeter.” He always had stories to tell and words of wisdom to share, among them: never come home with less than half a tank of gas; spend less than you make; pay yourself first out of your paycheck or you’re stealing from your future; it’s ok to play while you work, you spend most of your life working; and working hard is the best way to ensure success in life. A few quotes his children especially enjoyed include things such as, “Let me tell you something you may not know, one monkey don’t stop no show,” and, “Size don’t mean anything; if it did a cow would outrun a jack rabbit.” Everette’s children and family members describe him as gentle, kind, creative, funny, soft-spoken, hard-working, patient, caring, genuine, honest, humble and forgiving.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters, Wanda Kaye Herrington and Linda Faye Herrington; and sisters, Tommie Herrington and Bobbie Lee Godwin.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Herrington; sons, Shawn Satcher, Everette Herrington II, Henry “Rusty” Herrington, Jeremy Satcher and Justin Mitchell; daughters, Angela Thomas, Andrea Sutton (Ben), Alecia Cockrell, Virginia Terrell, Shana Sudbeck (Bradley), Kristal Herrington and Anita Mitchell; brothers, Jackie Herrington, Wayne Roberts and Frankie Roberts; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
