Martha Ann Gordon Masterson

Martha Ann Gordon Masterson of Vicksburg died Friday, May 3, 2019, at her home surrounded by family after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 82 years old.

She was born in Water Valley on October 10, 1936, to Robert Noah Gordon and Roxie Ann Gordon.

Martha was a member of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg for 54 years, founded and served as director and teacher of the Special Needs Sunday School class, served as a leader of Joy Fellowship, was on the founding committee of the Family Life Center, went on numerous mission trips, taught vacation Bible school and served on various committees.

Along with Betty Hearn, she was a co-organizer of the Vicksburg Girls Softball League. She was one of the first members of Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association, an avid bowler and also played semi-pro softball. Her hobby was working with stained glass and created many beautiful pieces.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Chester W. Masterson; her parents, father Robert Noah Gordon and mother Roxie Ann Gordon Wolfe, both of Water Valley; siblings Barbara, Steve, Robert Jr., Macel and Sally Gordon, all of Crowder.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Cathy Schultz, Chester Masterson Jr., Cindy Busby (Eddie), and Dr. Robert Calvin Masterson (Dana), all of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Tracy Schultz Hood of Baton Rouge, La., Robert Gregg Schultz (Kayla) of Denham Springs, La., Cpl. Stephen Blake Schultz, USMC, Dr. Chester Warren Masterson III (Ann Clark) of Tupelo, Taylor Tullos Masterson of Memphis, Tenn., Paul Wade Brewer II of Vicksburg, Lauren Brewer Beckman (Korey) of Oak Grove, Darin Keith Busby (Leah) of Jackson, Joshua Gordon Masterson, Jonah Reed Masterson, Anna McKenzie Masterson, Olivia Kate Masterson, and Sophie Grace Masterson of Vicksburg.

One great-granddaughter, Reya Hunter of Jackson; sisters, Patricia Helms of Pope,  Carolyn McCaa of Sardis, Mary Gordon, of Moscow, Tenn., Bonnie Thompson of Brandon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glenwood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Services will be Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, May 6, 2019, at Glenwood Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joshua Masterson, Jonah Masterson, Gregg Schultz, Blake Schultz, Warren Masterson, Paul Wade Brewer, Darin Busby and Korey Beckman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom and Janell Hill, Mark Chaney, J. W. Carter, Jim Pilgrim, Joe Stuckey, Durwood and Maurice Tadlock, Jim Hess, Nell Woods and her special golfing buddies Carol Roberson, Connie Kegerreis, and Mary May. Special thanks to Encompass Hospice, Private Home Care, Kindred Home Health, Dr. Thomas Sligh, Dr. Ruth Fredericks and Hannah Miller.
