Funeral services for Willie Jean Carpenter Drayton will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at King David No. 1 M.B. Church with the Rev. Melvin Smith officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Drayton will be taken to the church 1 hour prior to the start of the funeral service.

Mrs. Drayton passed away Monday, May 27, at Select Specialty Hospital of Jackson following a brief illness.  She was 73.  She had worked as a nurse at Kuhn State Memorial Hospital and Vicksburg Hospital.  She was a member of the King David No. 1 M. B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Robert and Lillie Mae Palmer Carpenter; and her daughter, Shelia Drayton.

She is survived by her two sons, Clarence Drayton III and Michael Darnell Drayton, both of Vicksburg; her daughter, Stephanie C. Smith of Brandon; her two brothers, James Carpenter and Larry Carpenter, both of Vicksburg; her sister, Louise Carpenter of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren.
