James Davis “Pat” Arnold

Mr. James Davis “Pat” Arnold passed away Monday, July 29, 2019. He was 96 years old.
Mr. Arnold was born Aug. 9, 1922, and reared in Hattiesburg. He was the son of Robert and Inez Redus Arnold.
He attended Mississippi State College (University) on a football scholarship before and after WWII, graduating with a degree in civil engineering.
Mr. Arnold served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps as an engineering officer both during WWII and the Korean War, obtaining the rank of captain.
He was employed as a civil engineer with the Vicksburg District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 38 years, retiring as assistant chief of the engineering division. During employment, he earned numerous awards for service and later was inducted into the Vicksburg District Gallery of Distinguished Employees.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Vicksburg and served several years on the city of Vicksburg Planning Commission. In 1948, he married Helen Louise Kelly of Columbus and they had four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Kelly Arnold; sons Robert P. Arnold (Vicki) and James K. Arnold (Missy); daughters, Beth Pharr (Mike) and Patricia Newman (Michael); four grandchildren, one step-grandson; and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration visitation will be held Thursday, August 1, 2019, at Glenwood Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
