The Event Place, 1415 Washington St., was forced closed Sunday after a Saturday evening incident where shots were fired.

Mayor George Flaggs Sunday ordered the establishment closed pending a meeting between property owner Daryl Hollingsworth, Flaggs and Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore. As of Monday evening, no meeting has been had or scheduled.

Moore said the incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Saturday during a party involving juveniles. An argument began in the building and carried out into the street, where the shots were fired.

He said no one was injured and no arrests were made pending an investigation.

Hollingsworth said Sunday morning he will be reviewing the security tapes from inside the building. He said the building is leased to a woman who lives in Atlanta, Ga.

“We’re pulling the tapes, and once we get a look at them, we’ll have a better idea of what happened,” he said. “I believe the police arrived before the shooting, which happened outside the building.

“We’ve asked the city to pull the tapes from two cameras that were outside the building so we can also look at them.”

Monday, Lt. Johnnie Edwards with the Vicksburg Police Department, confirmed investigators had not seen any security video footage from inside the facility, but had accessed some video from surrounding buildings and businesses.

He also confirmed that no suspects had been identified as of Monday afternoon.
