If you are in town and have free time today, head downtown for a football-themed “Second Saturday” event.

Second Saturday is a monthly festival designed to showcase Vicksburg’s walkable historic downtown. Since the event’s inception, it has done just that with musical acts at establishments downtown, outside vendors, demonstrations, family-friendly games and more.

We commend the Vicksburg-Warren Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Association, merchants and volunteers who have come together to provide a fun community event that also benefits our local economy. Second Saturday brings Warren County together for community fellowship while supporting local musicians, artists, merchants and restauranteurs. The event extends outside of downtown by offering vendor space to businesses that do not have a brick and mortar location in the area.

Second Saturdays, which is in its first month since the inaugural festival in June, has done a good job of organizing and executing the indoor-outdoor event. In August, rain came on the second Saturday of the month and event organizers quickly moved musical acts indoors and encouraged the community to come out and enjoy the event despite the weather. And family-friendly games and entertainment make the event a fun and cultural experience for all ages.

This weekend, organizers have asked attendees to come in their favorite football team’s apparel to enjoy the events and watch the game from a downtown establishment.

Vicksburg is a community full of vibrant culture. The well-planned events of Second Saturday will only be as successful as the community makes it. So throw on your favorite football team’s jersey and head downtown to enjoy the weekend with your neighbors, family and friends. Second Saturday is scheduled to continue through December, so mark your calendar for future events as well.
