Online hunter ed class
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is now allowing the state’s hunters to complete a mandatory education course online.
The internet course, “Today’s Hunter in Mississippi,” can be found at the agency’s website, mdwfp.com. The class is video-narrated and interactive. The certificate from the online course can be presented as a digital or paper copy to license vendors to purchase a hunting license.
Residents under 16 who choose to take the internet course will still need to attend a three-hour classroom course before being certified.
The next classroom course offered in Warren County is scheduled for Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Fisher Ferry Fire Department on Lee Road. Registration for the classroom class must be done online at education.mdwfp.com/Web/Event/CountySelection.
JV football report
Vicksburg Junior 24, Pearl 8 – Johnny Smith caught two long touchdown passes from quarterback Ronnie Alexander, and also scored on a pair of two-point conversions to lead Vicksburg Junior High’s eighth-grade team past Pearl Junior. Alex Jefferson had a 60 yard touchdown run and Malik Montgomery added the two point conversion.
The Gators (6-0) have not allowed an opponent to score more than eight points in a game this season, and have earned the right to host the first-ever Little Six Conference football championship game on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. against an opponent to be determined. The Gators finish the regular season Tuesday, on the road at Germantown at 6 p.m.
Red Carpet Bowl golf
The third annual Red Carpet Bowl Invitational Golf Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 12 and 13 at Vicksburg Country Club.
The tournament is a three-man scramble/shamble format and starts at 11:30 a.m. each day. The entry fee is $375 per team.
Cash prizes of $1,000, $600 and $400 will be awarded for first through third place, respectively, based on a full field. There are also prizes for the longest drive and closest to the hole each day, and a Saturday night Calcutta.
ll proceeds from the tournament benefit the Red Carpet Bowl scholarship fund.

Over the River Run
Registration is now open for the 31st Annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and race walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge.
The race is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12 at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $25 for the run and race walk, or $10 for children under 10. For more information or to register, visit southernculture.org, or call the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation at 601-631-2997.
The Over the River Run is a fundraiser for the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation.
Realtor golf tournament
The annual Vicksburg Realtor Golf Tournament will be Friday, Oct. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Vicksburg Country Club. This event is hosted by the Vicksburg-Warren County Board of Realtors and proceeds benefit The Warrior Bonfire Program. Cost is $90 per player or $325 per four-man team.

Sports Force baseball tournament
Sports Force Parks on the Mississippi will host the Round Tripper Tournament, a sanctioned Grand Slam youth baseball tournament for teams in the 7U-13U age divisions, Oct. 19 and 20. The tournament fees range from $185 to $375 per team, depending on the age group. Each team will receive three guaranteed games and championship rings for first and second place finishers. Umpires and baseballs are included in the entry fee.

Alcorn State golf tournament
The Alcorn State University Alumni Foundation will host its 11th annual Purple and Gold Benefit Golf Tournament on Friday, Oct. 11 at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.
The tournament is a four-person scramble and will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $100 per person in advance, or $125 the day of the event. Entry fees include lunch, cart and beverages. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin and longest drive, and a car will be awarded for a hole-in-one.
