Dr. John Cofield Stepan

Dr. John Cofield Stepan, 78, passed away on Oct. 11, 2019.
Born in Vicksburg, he was the son of Theodore Emanuel and Cue Cofield Stepan. He graduated from Carr Central High School and attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., followed by Medical School at University of Mississippi Medical Center.
He served as a surgeon in the US Air Force during the Vietnam war. Upon his return to the States, he did a residency in radiology at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. Subsequently, Dr. Stepan returned to his hometown of Vicksburg where he worked as a radiologist for 38 years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of Choctaw Supper club, Rawhide hunting club and Moosonee hunting club. He also was an active member of the Vicksburg Rotary Club, where he served as president in 2012-2013.
He was a longtime member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.He was also active in community programs including Boy Scouts, SOS Youth program and Jacob’s Ladder.
Dr. Stepan is survived by Rebecca Stepan, his wife of 53 years; his sister, Nancy Stepan Cook; his children, Anne and John Robert; his daughter-in-law Andrea, and his granddaughter Isabella Stepan.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 9-11 a.m. at Crawford Street UMC immediately followed by the service in the sanctuary. Interment will be at the Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery following the service.
