Funeral services for Marie V. Pierce are to be held on Saturday the 19 October in the Greater Mt. Lebanon M. B. Church at noon with the Rev. John Henry Williams officiating; interment shall follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. There will be a visitation held on Friday, Oct. 18 in the funeral home from 6-7 p.m.

Marie V. Horton Pierce passed away Sunday, Oct. 13 in the St. Dominic Hospital following a brief illness. She was 89.

She was a retired head nutritionist for the head-start program and member of Greater Mount Lebanon M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Estella Hughes Horton; her husband, Leon Pierce Sr.; sons, Joseph Glenn Pierce, Leon Pierce Jr., Billy Pierce; daughter, Peggy V. Pierce; brothers, Johnny Horton Jr.,  Andrew Horton and David Horton and sisters, Louise Horton Winfield and Mary Lena Horton Wilson.

She is survived by her son, Andrew Louis Horton of Baton Rouge, La.; her seven daughters, Deloris M. Pierce-Green of Vicksburg, Debra Y. Pierce-Clark of Ridgeland, Martha Pierce-Robinson, Vivian L. Pierce, Lee Theresa Lynn all of Vicksburg, Carrie Pierce Anderson and Gertie Pierce Lea both of Oakland, Calif.; two sisters Helen Horton and Margie Horton Atkins both of Baton Rouge, La.; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and
