George Thomas “Red” Dowdy went to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 6, 2019, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1941, in Tennessee to Troy and Dovie Dowdy. He worked for Blackburn Motor Company for 32 years.

He was an active member of Bovina Baptist Church. He had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ.  

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Dowdy; and son-in-law Roy Hill.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sara Catherine Dowdy; daughter and son-in-law Elisha and Mike Woods and their children Landon, Evan and Kendall Woods; his stepdaughter, Donna Hill and her children Jason Shettles (Kathy), Dewayne Roach (Stephanie), Ashley Barton and Dana Smith; stepson, Wayne Shettles(Cecilia) and their children Michelle Taylor (Daniel), Patricia McHann (Adam), Michael Shettles and Robert Shettles. He has many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

He is also survived by one brother and four sisters. 

The memorial service will be at Bovina Baptist Church, Nov. 8, 2019, at 2 pm.

Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
