One injured in Wednesday morning drive-by shooting

A 35-year-old Vicksburg woman is recovering at University of Mississippi Medical Center after being shot early Wednesday.

According to Lt. Johnnie Edwards with the Vicksburg Police Department, Denise Bester, was in her home on the 1500 block of South Street when she was struck in the back by a bullet fired during a drive-by shortly after 4 a.m.

Edwards said Bester was sitting on the side of her bed when the shots were fired. Paramedics arrived and transported Bester to Jackson.

Witnesses told police that occupants in a dark-colored vehicle fired the shots from the passenger side window before leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

There were three other people in the house at the time of the shooting, including one child.
