STARKVILLE — Mississippi State gave its fans a thrill on college baseball’s opening day.
Rowdey Jordan and Justin Foscue each drove in two runs during a six-run rally in the sixth inning, and the Bulldogs came from behind to beat Wright State 9-6 Friday at Dudy Noble Field.
Mississippi State erased an early three-run deficit and tied the game on Jordan’s two-run single in the sixth. Foscue doubled home two runs three batters later, and two more runs scored on an error to put the Bulldogs ahead 9-5.
Wright State loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth inning but only got one run. Jared Shemper threw a wild pitch that allowed one run to score, then walked Tyler Black to reload the bases with one out. Shemper then got Zane Harris to line into a game-ending double play.
Jordan, Mississippi State’s leadoff hitter, finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Hatcher also had two hits, including a double, and scored twice.
Sophomore J.T. Ginn started on the mound and had modest results. He allowed two runs on three hits and a pair of walks. He also hit two batters, balked twice, and threw one wild pitch. Ginn finished with four strikeouts.
Former Warren Central star Carlisle Koestler also pitched two innings for the Bulldogs. He allowed three runs on five hits, struck out three and walked one.
Mississippi State and Wright State play Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
