The Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Monday the closure of the Vicksburg Visitor Information Center, located on Old Highway 27 across from the Vicksburg National Military Park.

Officials said the move was made “as a health and safety measure as many other operations around the state and the world are conducting similar closures.”

This announcement follows the decision over the weekend by the Mississippi Development Authority to close all welcome centers across the state beginning Sunday, including the Warren County Welcome Center on Washington Street overlooking the Mississippi River.

“We understand that the Visitor Information Center is helpful to those who visit Vicksburg,” VCVB Executive Director Laura Beth Strickland said. “However, we want to be prudent for the welfare of our visitors and our staff during this extraordinary time. We appreciate the understanding of the public.”
