Number of statewide COVID-19 cases surpasses 10,000

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Mississippi since the start of the pandemic crossed 10,000 with the report Wednesday of 182 new cases.
The Mississippi State Department of Health Wednesday also reported that of those now 10,090 cases, 6,268 are now considered “presumed recovered.”
Also Wednesday, the state announced eight new virus-related deaths, bringing the total of deaths thus far to 465. The new deaths were reported in Jasper (1), Leake (1), Leflore (1), Lincoln (1), Hinds (1), Lowndes (1), Madison (2) and Oktibbeha (1) counties.
The number of confirmed cases in Warren County increased by just one overnight, bringing the pandemic total to 123 in the county. Of those cases, 12 are connected to long-term care facilities within the county. The state has declined to announce to which facilities those confirmed cases are connected.
In Yazoo County, the number of confirmed cases moved to 171 overall, with two virus-related deaths. In Claiborne County, the number remained at 41 and in Sharkey County, the number remained at five confirmed cases.
