John Reginald Crawford, 85, was born Nov. 8, 1934, and died May 18, 2020, after a stroke. He was a man known for his love for God, family, friends, and neighbors. He was held in highest regard by his family and friends.
He was raised in the Mississippi Delta. Beginning his work life at an early age in agriculture where he developed leadership skills, a keen ability to relate with others and a strong work ethic that set him in motion to excel. He left the farm for the city at age 17 on this quest. He married Dewell Briggs, and they had three sons and a daughter. His dad and mother taught him about God and Jesus Christ and he made it a priority to teach and lead his family to honor and worship God. He was driven to advance his skills and income and continued his pursuit toward that goal. Reggie accomplished much in life. He studied television/radio repair, became a TV/radio technician, and helped many receive the news and shows during the growth of television. He was charismatic and very skilled in communication, endearing himself to people. Reggie learned the art of the sale — selling only the best products. He continued his professional growth helping others build businesses, excelling and winning awards in management of retail, financial and insurance products.
Reggie was a biblical scholar. He loved the Word of God and studied daily. He read commentaries and theological works and always referred back to the Word of God for clarity. He loved people and they were drawn to him for his enthusiasm and joy that radiated from within. He loved the church, was a leader of worship services, taught Bible classes and was especially fond of people of faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Dewell. Although he enjoyed life after her passing on July 31, 2014, he looked forward to being with her again; father and mother, Julius Morgan and Ella Lee Crawford; brothers Charles, Wayne and Rodney; sister Mary Ann; son-in-law Barney Koestler.
He is survived by his children Gary Crawford and wife Evon, Reggie Crawford and wife Susan, Tony Crawford and wife Marilyn, Tina Koestler; brother Leroy Crawford; sister Jo Gullette; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Reggie enjoyed life to the fullest and longed to be back with his wife and best friend Dewell. He is now resting in that place with her awaiting that great day when Jesus brings those who rest in Him to the new heaven and new earth.
