Public library to begin curbside pick-up program June 2
As county officials discuss the best way to reopen or increase public access to county-owned facilities after the county’s emergency order expires on June 1, the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library is moving forward with plans to restart some of its services.
In a release Tuesday, library officials announced that while the library will not hold any public events, will not allow the use of the library’s meeting room, or allow patrons in the library at this time, it will begin a curbside pick-up program, allowing those with library cards the ability to check out items using a curbside pick-up system.
Beginning June 2, those wanting to check out materials from the library should call 601-636-6411 or email their requests to email@example.com.
Those submitting requests will need to provide their name, library card number, cell phone number and names of the items.
The staff, which will need at least two hours to gather the items, will then assign a pick-up time. Those checking out items will need to arrive at the appointed time and then call from the parking lot, at which point a staff member will bring those items to the car and can also then pick-up any items that need to be returned.
Requests received after 3 p.m. will not be ready for pick up until the next day beginning at 10 a.m.
The library will operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will be closed from noon to 1 p.m.
“As this is the first time our library has offered curbside service, we respectfully ask for our patrons’ patience and understanding,” library director Katrina Stokes said in the release. “We will do our best to fill patrons’ requests in a timely manner.”
The library also announced that any fines and fees charged to library accounts prior to the library’s closure on March 16, must be paid in full to receive curbside pick-up service.
It was also announced Tuesday changes to the way patrons can drop off and return items to the library.
While the book drop will remain closed, a book bin and AV cart will be located outside the lobby door. Patrons are asked to place items on the designated cards.
Returned items are then for 14 days after check-in and will not be available to the patrons during that time.
The library also announced that all due dates from March 16 to June 2 have been extended until June 26.
One of the library’s more popular events, the Summer Library Program, will this year move online and begin July 1, lasting four weeks. Announcements for programs and activities will be announced later.
