Claiborne County sees spike in COVID-19 deaths; Warren County cases jump

On a day where Warren County reported its second-highest one-day total in new COVID-19 cases, neighboring Claiborne County was reporting tremendously tragic news.
Warren County reported the second-highest one-day total in new COVID-19 cases Wednesday.
In its report, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced 10 new cases in Warren County, bringing the total number reported during the pandemic to 191. The increase also forced the number of estimated active cases to 45, the highest number since May 24.
The highest one-day total of new cases was 19, which was reported on May 10.
In Claiborne County, the number of confirmed cases increased by just two, moving to 114. But the tragic news Wednesday is the county reported three additional virus-related deaths, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Claiborne County to five overall.
Statewide, the number of confirmed cases reported during the pandemic stands at 16,332; an increase of 302 since Tuesday.
The state also reported an additional 15 deaths. So far, the state has reported 782 virus-related deaths.
Yazoo County Wednesday reported 291 overall cases with four deaths, while Sharkey County remained at seven confirmed cases. It is expected that many if not all of those cases in Sharkey County should now be considered recovered.
Issaquena County remains the only county in the state to not yet report a positive case.
