Evelyn Joan Floyd

Mrs. Evelyn Joan Floyd died Monday morning in Naples, Fla. where she was staying with her son. She was 99.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Murphy; her husband of almost 55 years, Henry J. Floyd Sr.; and her two sons, Michael Floyd and Paul Floyd.
Mrs. Floyd, a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Vicksburg, was a pillar of the church and was known for energetic ways and her optimistic can-do spirit. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and was known for her excellence in sewing and cooking. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality and served on the Altar Society committee for the church. Her commitment to St. Mary’s included every facet of the church and school.
She is survived by her 10 children; two sons, Henry J. Floyd Jr. of Naples, Fla. and Peter A. Floyd of Hattiesburg; eight daughters, Elizabeth A. Pullum of Jackson, Peggy B. Lee of Houston, Texas, Mary P. Sias of Germantown, Md., Rita A. Gilbert (Paul Gilbert) of Vicksburg, Evelyn J. Fontenette (Lionel Fontenette) of Houston, Texas, Catherine Miller of Nashville, Tenn., Angela D. Stirgus (Michael Stirgus) of Houston, Texas, and Sharon T. Bunch (Darrell Bunch) of Houston, Texas. She leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was much loved and will be missed.
Much to the regrets of the family because of COVID19 restrictions there will be no public services.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers any donation may be sent to St.Mary’s Catholic Church, 1512 Main St., Vicksburg, MS in her memory.
