Agents with the U.S. Marshal’s Service have captured one of two men who escaped from the Jefferson Davis County Jail on July 23.

Prentiss Mayor Charlie Dumas confirmed through a post on his Facebook page that the Marshals captured Marcus Bridges, 30, after a car chase Friday in Chicago. Bridges was being held on an armed robbery charge.

Desmond Fortenberry, who escaped with Bridges, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Fortenberry, 28, of Silver Creek, was arrested July 14 by Vicksburg police on a bench warrant from Jefferson Davis County for failure to appear in court on a charge of murder. He escaped less than two weeks later, however.

Prentiss police charged Fortenberry with the November shooting death of Carlos Taylor in Prentiss.

Taylor, who had been shot multiple times in the chest, side and neck, identified Fortenberry as the shooter before he died.
