District to begin delivering meals to distance learners beginning Tuesday

Beginning Tuesday, the Vicksburg Warren School District will begin delivering school meals to students who are participating in distance learning.
The district will deliver meals via established bus routes each Monday through Friday. Each delivery will include a breakfast and lunch meal at no cost.
Meals may be picked up at the enrolled student’s closest bus stop between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A list of bus stops can be found at www.vwsd.org/transportation.
A child must be present and verified as an enrolled VWSD student before receiving meals.
Families are encouraged to complete an online form if they have children in their household who are participating in distance learning through the Vicksburg Warren School District and would like their students to receive meals.
Information provided will help cafeteria and transportation staff load the correct number of meals on each route and alert staff to any dietary restrictions for a child.
“It is important that students have nutritious meals every day so that they can grow and learn. Hungry kids cannot learn. With well over half of our families choosing distance learning, we know the right thing to do is to deliver meals to them,” VWSD Child Nutrition Director Laura Bounds said. “Our summer feeding program was extremely successful and I’m glad we had that experience and can roll this similar program out with confidence.”
The Vicksburg Warren School District delivered more than 713,000 meals to children in Warren County between March and July when in-person schooling was suspended due to COVID-19. The 2020-21 school year began Aug. 17, and the district let families choose whether to send children back for in-person instruction or to participate in school via distance learning.
