On second thought: Harper rescinds resignation as county’s prosecuting attorney

Just days after submitting a letter resigning from his post, Warren County Prosecuting Attorney Ken Harper has changed his mind.

Thursday, Harper provided a letter to the Warren County Board of Supervisors rescinding his resignation.

Following his resignation Monday, supervisors had been set to discuss how to fill the then-vacant position during their scheduled meeting Sept. 21, but the item has been removed from the agenda.

“By this letter I am hereby withdrawing and rescinding the letter of resignation which I submitted to you on Sept. 14, 2020,” Harper wrote in his letter to the Warren County Board of Supervisors dated Thursday. “I regret any disruption and confusion I might have caused.”

“I acted in haste,” Harper said. “I’ve had some conversations with some people I should have had before I took the action I did. If I had, the whole episode wouldn’t have happened. It was just basically my fault. I should have talked to some people before I did it instead of after.”

In November, Harper defeated then-Warren County Prosecuting Attorney Ricky Johnson and Stephen McMillin for the office.

As county prosecuting attorney, Harper serves as prosecutor for criminal cases in the county, justice and youth courts. He also represents the state in cases appealed from the county court to circuit court.
