Graveside funeral services for Willie Mae Singleton will be Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020, at 11 a.m. Cedar Hill Cemetery with Father Joseph Nguyan officiating.
Willie Mae Singleton passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020, in Baton Rouge, La. following a lengthy illness. She was 88.
Willie Mae Singleton was born April 5, 1932, in Vicksburg. She was one of 11 brothers and sisters born to Ed and Alberta Gaskin.
After graduating in 1951 from St. Mary’s High School she relocated to Los Angeles. In 1953 she married Elijah Singleton who passed in 2007 to this union two children were born Harvey and Carolyn.
Willie Mae was employed as a cook for the Los Angeles Unified School District where she developed a special talent and skill in pastry cooking. In fact, her rum balls and cheesecakes were in high demand around the holidays.
In 1998 Willie Mae and Elijah retired and relocated to Vicksburg and she became an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She was known for her righteous and generous heart. She always was there to help an ailing sibling, parent or friend. She will always be remembered as a loving caretaker. Especially for those who sometimes did not know how to take care of themselves.
She is survived by one sister, Ernestine Boone; her son, Harvey (Aurora) Singleton; daughter, Carolyn Singleton; two grandchildren, Harvey Singleton Jr. and Jessica Singleton; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others.
