Margarite (Re-Re) Curtis-Farell passed away peacefully in her sleep in Springfield, Md. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020. She was 59. 

She began her federal career at the defense mapping agency in November 1985. She began working for the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the Office of Human Resource (OHR) in July 1987. In 1993, she joined the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEO). Margarite served as EEO specialist in the office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). She provided EDI services to the NIH centers where she received positive acknowledgment from the leadership on her excellent customer service and her ability to make the needs of each IC a priority.

Among many accomplishments, she served as the NIH Federal Woman’s Manager working with the NIH Federal Woman’s program Network Committee, addressing concerns of female employees regarding women in leadership and position of influence at the NIH. The project that was near and dear to her heart was servicing as the program coordinator for the NIH Annual Take your Child to Work Day event from 2007-2011

She received numerous accolades for her hard work and achievements in these areas including the 2010 NIH Directors Award, for her work with the Take Your Child to Work Day Program. She made many notable contributions during her career. She gained respect from her colleagues and customers while touching their lives in immeasurable ways. She retired in December 2015 after 30 years due to a severe leg injury. She loved doing craft projects, spending time with family and traveling.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Emma Curtis Sr.; two sisters, Martha Ican Curtis-Cooper, Emma Kate Wade; two brothers, Robert Curtis Jr. and Charles A Curtis; two nieces, Talina D. Shun Curtis and Cynthia (Cindy) A. Wade.

She leaves behind a loving husband of 32 years Michael Farell; a daughter, Constance Michell Farell; two sisters Connie Curtis Bingham and Rose Curtis Butler; a brother, Eddie Curtis Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020, at 11 a.m. in the Beltway Church of Christ in Camp Springs, Md.
