There is a lot of action going on this time of year at the North Pole in Santa’s workshop. But Vicksburg has a lot going on, too.

In fact, there is so much to do in the River City during the holiday season, Vicksburg was named the top Christmas town in Mississippi by onlyinyourstate.com.

“We are so excited to be recognized for our holiday spirit in Vicksburg,” said Vicksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau executive director Laura Beth Strickland. “We have so many wonderful holiday events, and the city decks out with beautiful decorations to celebrate the Christmas season. It’s no surprise that we have been noticed as a top Christmas town in Mississippi.”

This year, the holiday season kicked off with the Reindeer Roundup, a precursor to the Reindeer Run 5k – a fundraiser for Paws Rescue. The event was followed by the City of Vicksburg Tree Lighting along with Small Business Saturday and Downtown’s Old Fashion Christmas Open House. Many more events are scheduled throughout the month with more than eight just this weekend.

The online post acknowledged several of those events, saying “From the Christmas parade to the Reindeer Run 5K, there’s always something fun to look forward to during Christmastime in Vicksburg. From late November until the end of December, Christmas in the Park takes over the downtown scene with plenty of shimmering lights, trolley rides, and Santa sightings.”

Other cities making the list include, in order, Jackson; Biloxi; Natchez; Southaven; Oxford; and Laurel.
