Caleb Tucker had a great week as St. Aloysius’ last line of defense, and it moved him to the front of the line in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.
Tucker, a senior goal keeper for St. Al’s soccer team, received 228 of the 572 votes cast in an online poll of The Post’s readers to claim this week’s award.
Tucker narrowly edged Porter’s Chapel Academy basketball player Jae’la Smith, who finished in second place with 206 votes. Vicksburg High basketball player Kierra James was third, with 88 votes, and Warren Central basketball player Garrett Orgas came in fourth with 50 votes.
Tucker made a total of 15 saves to lead the Flashes to one win and one tie in two games last week. He had 10 saves in a 1-1 tie with Madison-St. Joe on Nov. 27, and five more in a 4-1 victory over Cathedral on Nov. 30.
Tucker is the first St. Aloysius athlete to win The Athlete of the Week award this season.
Congratulations to Caleb and the other nominees, and thank you to our readers for voting.
The nominees for the Athlete of the Week award are announced each Sunday, and voting is open until midnight Tuesday. Links to the poll will be posted on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, as well as vicksburgpost.com.
