A late afternoon fire Friday heavily damaged the Wholesale Import and Liquidation furniture store at 2006 Clay St.
Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said firefighters were called about 5:34 p.m. and arrived to see flames coming through the roof of the building. He said firefighters entering the building found mattresses on fire in a storage room.
“There must have been about 100 mattresses; they were stacked on top of each other,” Stamps said.
He said fire damage was contained to the storage room and the front area of the store. The rest of the store had smoke damage.
The cause of the fire was undetermined at this time.
