Basketball Roundup: Smith’s triple-double, Porter’s 30-point night lead PCA to sweep of Union Christian

Jae’la Smith filled up the stat sheet and Porter’s Chapel Academy filled in the win column again on Friday.
Smith had a triple-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals and six assists to lead Porter’s Chapel Academy’s girls’ basketball team to a 65-5 girls’ basketball win against Union Christian.
Smith nearly reached double figues in a fourth stat category as well, finishing with six assists.
Smith was 12-of-16 from the field, and PCA (6-0) made 30 of 52 shots (57.7 percent) as a team. The Lady Eagles led 40-2 at halftime.
Lauren Madison added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Eagles, while Sophie Masterson had eight points and seven rebounds.
Emily Muirhead also scored five points and Marley Bufkin had four.
Florence 50, Vicksburg 30
Starr Amos finished with 13 points to lead a balanced effort as Florence knocked off Vicksburg High on Friday.
Ariana Barnes finished with nine points and Faith Quick had eight for Florence (10-4), which had all five starters score at least five points.
Kierra James led Vicksburg (2-11) with 15 points, while Rodrianna Hall and Cynia Johnson scored five apiece.
Port Gibson 46, Warren Central 14
Camara Evans scored 16 points and Ger’kiya Flowers finished with 12 to lead Port Gibson (6-4) past Warren Central.
Evans has 12 points and Flowers 10 in the first quarter the Blue Waves raced to a 29-7 lead and were not threatened.
Shay Hodge led Warren Central (0-13) with seven points.
Boys
Porter’s Chapel 74, Union Christian 59
Jeremiah Jefferson won the scoring shootout, but Noah Porter and Porter’s Chapel Academy won the game.
Porter finished with 30 points, including 12 in the third quarter when PCA blew the game open, and the Eagles defeated Union Christian on Friday.
Union Christian’s Jefferson scored a game-high 39 points. He had 13 in the first quarter and 12 in the third.
Porter, though, made 11 of his 17 shots, including four 3-pointers, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. He also had three assists.
Porter made two of his 3-pointers in the third quarter, when PCA outscored Union Christian 27-17 to turn a four-point halftime lead into a much more comfortable 14-point margin heading into the final period.
Ty Mack added 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for PCA (5-1), for his second double-double in a row. Taylor Labarre and Gavin White also had 10 points apiece.
ACCS 52, St. Aloysius 51
Anthony McCloud had a double-double for St. Aloysius, with 20 points and 12 rebounds, but the Flashes lost a close game to Adams County Christian School in their MAIS District 4-5A opener.
Caron Gleese added 17 points for St. Al (7-8, 0-1 District 4-5A), while Carson Henderson scored six.
ACCS also beat St. Al in the junior high game on Friday, 51-26. Dru Gleese led St. Al with 10 points.
In other boys’ basketball games in Warren County on Friday, Vicksburg High beat Florence 78-56 and Warren Central beat Port Gibson 51-45.
