The 2023 high school football season was an outstanding one for Warren County’s teams. Warren Central and Porter’s Chapel Academy both won district championships, and Vicksburg High also reached the playoffs for the fourth year in a row.
Individually, more than a dozen players were named to all-state teams, MHSAA or MAIS all-star teams, or both. A number of them also set school and county records or reached career statistical milestones.
This weekend we celebrate all of their accomplishments by unveiling the 2023 Vicksburg Post All-County offensive team for Warren County. The 15-man squad is led by Porter’s Chapel Academy quarterback John Wyatt Massey, the Post’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Massey passed for 1.866 yards and 40 touchdowns this season in leading the Eagles to the MAIS Class 2A semifinals and their first district championship since 2008.
He set Warren County records for touchdown passes in a game (7) and season (40), and a school record for TD passes in a career (53). Massey was an MAIS All-Star and a Class 2A All-MAIS selection.
The 14 other members of the All-County offense, as well as the 16 chosen for the All-County defense, all had excellent seasons. Scroll through the photo gallery above to see who made the team and their achievements.
The All-County offense also appears in our weekend print edition, available now. The defense will be in the Dec. 27 print edition and online early next week.
Congratulations to all!
