Our Volunteer of the Week this week is Madison Heggins Carpenter.
Madison is a native of Vicksburg. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, she returned home to work for her family’s businesses, H&M Promotional Products and Levee Street Warehouse. She is married to Seth Carpenter and they have have two children, Miyo and John Glenn.

How did your volunteering for The Vicksburg Kiwanis Club begin?
Daniel Miles, a member of The Kiwanis Club of Vicksburg, asked me to join the club.

How long have you been volunteering with The Vicksburg Kiwanis Club?
I ended up joining in January 2023. I’ve been volunteering with them ever since. I’m currently the community service chair.

What is your favorite memory while volunteering for The Vicksburg Kiwanis Club?
I enjoyed ringing the Salvation Army Bell at Kroger. My mom and my children were with me which made it fun!

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?
People’s lives can change through volunteering. Not just the recipients, but also the volunteers. It’s a very rewarding feeling when you volunteer.

What are some of your tasks while volunteering with The Vicksburg Kiwanis Club?
As the community service chair, I am in charge of setting up volunteering opportunities for the Vicksburg Kiwanis Club. We volunteer at several organizations throughout the community.

What have you learned from volunteering?
Volunteering is very humbling. I’ve learned that everyone is busy living their lives. But those who choose to take time out of their schedule to volunteer are people I look up to.

How can someone else who might be interested in volunteering with The Vicksburg Kiwanis Club get involved?
Anyone who would like to join or learn about the Kiwanis Club of Vicksburg is welcome to join us for lunch every Tuesday at the Vicksburg Convention Center. We meet at noon.
