THE LATEST: Wintry weather moving in; officials urge preparation, safety while traveling

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a winter storm watch in effect from this evening (Sun., Jan. 14) through late tonight.
A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Expected weather conditions include: a possibility of a mix of freezing rain and sleet; total ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch possible, in addition to light sleet accumulation up to two-tenths of an inch.
This forecast includes portions of northeast Louisiana, west central, north central and northeast Mississippi.
Officials said residents should plan on the possibility of hazardous travel conditions and the potential for sporadic power outages, adding that people should monitor the latest forecasts for updates and slow down and use caution while traveling.
