Winter weather advisory remains in effect in Warren County

Winter weather concerns continue for Warren County as the day progresses Monday, with the latest from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson forecasting a continued threat throughout the afternoon and evening.
“In the elevated area, a mix of freezing rain and sleet will develop Monday and continue into Monday night with travel becoming hazardous,” Warren County Emergency Management Agency officials said Monday afternoon.
While Warren County is currently below the “significant threat” area, it is located inside what NWS calls the “elevated threat” area, meaning the likelihood of sleet and freezing rain, hazardous roadways, and downed trees and power lines remains high.
According to the NWS, and as of 1:05 p.m. the temperature in Vicksburg was 23 degrees with a 60-percent chance of a “wintry mix” of rain and sleet. Warren County remains under a winter weather advisory until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
