Col. George Hogaboom went to Jackson to confer with a Legislative Committee. • Marcus Wachenhelm was out after an illness. • Andrew Romano was here from Monroe after an absence of 8 months. • Marion Todd was named temporary teacher of the seventh grade at Speed Street School.
90 Years Ago: 1934
Mrs. Nellie O’Herin died. • Jerry Cronin was installed as president of the I.C. Supervisors Club. • Louis P. Cashman was named to direct the sale of tickets for the President’s Birthday Hall.
80 Years Ago: 1944
A 2-inch snowfall was recorded in Vicksburg. • Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bazinsky were flu sufferers. • Mrs. Nellie Rule of Yokena died. • Robert Kelly Husbands passed away.
70 Years Ago: 1954
Services were held for L.C. Biedenharn. • Carl Thach, Mississippi Highway Safety Patrolman, was killed in an automobile accident. • Thelma Brown left for Chicago to enroll in the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School.
60 Years Ago: 1964
Lt. Col. James Betts assumed duties here as district engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers. • Edwin Morrison died. • Wayne Wyatt was elected president of the Yazoo City Shrine Club.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Outgoing president Paul Greer of the MSU Alumni Association in Vicksburg was presented an engraved plaque. • Tricia Wood of Edwards was named to the Dean’s List at Belhaven College. • Dr. and Mrs. Pat McLain and their children, Mark and Melissa, offered a slide presentation of their Christmas holiday, which was spent helping the Nigerians in Africa.
40 Years Ago: 1984
Harry Craig Williams died. • Robert Stewart III and Gerald Crimm Jr. received Eagle Scout Badges from the scout leader of Troop 103. • Mary Teresa Mitchell and Amy Renee Stewart celebrated their first birthdays.

Time was running out for the former St. Francis Xavier Academy to be purchased as a cultural heritage complex. • Silas C. Reed died.
20 Years Ago: 2004
Governor Haley Barbour was the guest speaker at the Vicksburg Warren County Chamber of Commerce banquet. • Patsy Edwards Tisdale and Barbara Bruce Applebaum were educators of the year.

Special Olympics were held at Warren Central High School. • Stacey Massey was named the new chief of SCHF. • Tavares Johnson stepped down as VHS head football coach to take the reigns at Hollendale Simmons.
