Weather is beginning to have an effect on the schedule for Warren County’s high school soccer teams.
Because of heavy rain in the forecast for much of the week, the Vicksburg vs. Warren Central games that were originally scheduled for Tuesday have been moved to Monday.
The girls’ game will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the boys at 7:15 at Warren Central’s Viking Stadium.
Rain and thunderstorms are forecast to move into Mississippi as early as Monday night and then linger until the weekend. Vicksburg is also scheduled to host Neshoba Central on Thursday, while Warren Central is to take a road trip to Columbus that same night. The status of those games has not yet been announced.
Last week’s winter storm also postponed a game between Warren Central and Ridgeland until Jan. 30. It will be played at Warren Central.
Last week, the Mississippi High School Activities Association announced it has extended the soccer season an extra week to allow postponed games across the state to be rescheduled.
Teams will have until Feb. 1, rather than the original date of Jan. 25, to finish their regular seasons. The Class I and Class 4A playoffs will begin Feb. 3. The Class 5A, 6A and 7A playoffs will begin Feb. 6.
Warren Central and Vicksburg High are both in Class 6A.
