Mrs. C.J. Edwards Jr. was ill. • Mrs. Louis Switzer was visiting relatives in Natchez. • Mr. and Mrs. George Taylor left for Sandy Hook, Conn. after visiting with the Warner family.

Ross Logan died. • Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Morrison were visiting relatives in north Mississippi. • Dr. and Mrs. Guy Jarratt motored to New Orleans.

Patty Gric, a member of the Carr Central faculty, resumed the duties after an illness of three weeks. • Sgt. Elizabeth Schofield of the local WAC recruiting station returned from a visit to Hartford, Conn. Mrs. • A.S. Shamber of Meridian was in Vicksburg visiting relatives.

Fred Williams was elected president of the Long Lake Club, Inc. • Services were held for David Hebron. • Sherrill Herring was named Vicksburg’s Travel Queen.
60 Years Ago: 1964
George Gibson, a former resident, died in Memphis. • Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pitchford announced the birth of a daughter, Shelia. • Mr. and Mrs. M.H. Heath announced the birth of a son, Michael.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Dr. and Mrs. Rex Eley were the parents of a son, Christopher. • Elsie McGehee, Lorraine A . Jones and Betty C May, Merchants National Bank employees, attended the annual state meeting of the National Association of Bank Women. • George Hammett Sr. died. • Frank Campbell, a recent law graduate, opened his offices on Grove Street.

The Mississippi State Legislature approved the bed tax up to 3 percent and no more to finance the construction of the convention center.
