The City of Vicksburg will make official two new appointments during an event scheduled for Wednesday, Mayor George Flaggs Jr. announced Friday morning.
According to information released by the city, Flaggs will recommend the appointments during Wednesday’s regular meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
The appointments will include naming newly sworn-in Assistant City Attorney Lee Davis Thames Jr. as interim city attorney replacing current City Attorney Kimberly Walker-Nailor. Thames was sworn into office Monday, the same day Nailor tendered her resignation, which will become official Friday, April 19.
Flaggs said in a statement that Thames’ appointment to city attorney comes at Nailor’s recommendation and voiced the city’s confidence in his ability to step into the role.
“Attorney Thames brings a wealth of experience and legal expertise to this role, having served as the city attorney from 2010-2013,” Flaggs said. “We are confident that Attorney Thames’ leadership and expertise will serve the City of Vicksburg well during his tenure as interim city attorney. We look forward to working closely with him to ensure that our city continues to thrive and prosper.”
Flaggs also announced the city will extend the contract of attorney Stephen McMillin as prosecutor until a permanent appointment can be made.
The Wednesday, April 10, meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen will be held at 10 a.m. at the Robert M. Walker Building.
