A rainy forecast has derailed a busy week of high school tennis at Halls Ferry Park.
Warren Central, Vicksburg High, St. Aloysius and Porter’s Chapel Academy were all scheduled to host their region and district tournaments at the park, but all have been postponed.
Warren Central and Vicksburg were scheduled to play in the MHSAA Region 2-6A tournament on Monday. St. Al was to play the MAIS District 4-5A tournament on Tuesday, and Porter’s Chapel the MAIS District 4-3A tournament on Wednesday.
St. Aloysius’ district tournament has been rescheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m. No make-up dates have been announced for the Region 2-6A and District 4-3A tournaments.
Rain and thunderstorms are forecast to move into Mississippi Monday afternoon and linger for several days. According to the National Weather Service, there is a 70 percent chance of rain on Tuesday, a 100 percent chance with some severe thunderstorms on Wednesday, and a 20 percent chance for Thursday.
In addition to the district tournaments, Halls Ferry Park will be a hub for Mississippi’s high school tennis postseason in April.
The Mississippi High School Activities Association will play its Class 4A, 6A and 7A individual state tournament at the park April 22-24.
The Mid-South Association of Independent Schools, meanwhile, will play the Class 5A South State tournament in Vicksburg on April 16. It will also play the Class 2A state tournament here on May 1.
The Class 3A and 5A state tournaments that St. Al and Porter’s Chapel will participate in will be played at the Ridgeland Tennis Center on April 25 and May 1, respectively.
