The supervisors named Dr. Ira Edwards to be the dairy, meat and milk inspector. • Mr. and Mrs. L. Dudley were visiting friends in Jackson. • John W. Flanagan died.

A total of 51 Boy Scouts were awarded merit badges here in Vicksburg. • L.B. Harris, train dispatcher, spoke at the meeting of the Supervisors Club. • Ruth Doiron was ill.

James G. Hutchins Jr. graduated from Engineer Officers Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Va. • The Crawford Street Methodist Church was dedicated with impressive services. • Henry Rickey was elected president of the Tallulah Rotary Club.

Mr. and Mrs. John Martin Jr. of Rolling Fork announced the birth of a daughter, Peggy. • Mrs. Nancy Gordon, a former Vicksburg resident, died in New Orleans. • Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Brown, of Port Gibson, announced the birth of their son. • Mrs. Ben Fitz-Hugh was visiting relatives in New Orleans.

Capt. Rhea A. Fuller Sr., veteran Vicksburg riverman, died. • A.K. Goff passed away. • Mr. and Mrs. Raymond May were in Greenville visiting friends.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Albert Tucker Hossley, the distributive education teacher at Vicksburg High School, was named Mississippi’s outstanding DE Teacher of the Year. • Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Lee Sr. returned from a visit to Texas and a two-week tour of Mexico. • Mr. and Mrs. Pat Bingham were the parents of a son, Patrick Jr.

Sister Mary Henrietta Berger R.S.M., a Vicksburg native died. • Ashley Nicole Breland celebrated her first birthday. • Mr. and Mrs. Randy Hayward Jolly announce the birth of their daughter, Rebecca Leigh.

Air Force 2nd Lt. Mark A. Baroni of Vicksburg received silver wings upon graduation from pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base.

City officials continued to wrestle with plans to develop a downtown art park that could include a $200,000 bathroom, more that the cost of most area homes.
