A LITTE SOMETHING EXTRA: Hosting a baby shower or sprinkle

Long gone are the days of having to wait to find out if the mother-to-be will be giving birth to a boy or girl. With today’s technology, couples can find out the sex of their child months before the little one is born.
This knowledge can be helpful when trying to come up with a name for the baby, which type of clothing one should purchase and the color scheme or design for a nursery.
Playing off the latter is how Mary Kaylin Gray came up with the décor for a recent baby sprinkle, held at the Duff Green Masion.
When Gray, who is a professional interior designer and owner of MK Designs, was asked questions pertaining to today’s tips and trends on hosting baby showers and sprinkles, a term now used for baby showers given for successive children, here is
what she shared.
How do you decide on decorations for a baby shower?
When decorating for a baby shower, I like to use the color scheme and/or theme the mom-to-be might be using for the nursery.
Are there any trends that mothers are leaning toward when it comes to a baby shower?
Yes, mixing patterns along with your typical blue and pink, are becoming a popular trend.
What are some of the special touches that can make the shower meaningful?
I like to incorporate a monogram. Whether it’s the baby’s full monogram or just an initial. I also like to use a children’s book for a guest book. These are just a few meaningful touches that the mom can use after her shower.
Who is typically invited to baby showers?
Typically, its family and close friends but always consult with the mom-to-be on the guest list.
Are there any particular do’s and don’ts when hosting a baby shower?
Do let the grandmothers-to-be play a part in the planning. Do consult the guest of honor. Do offer easy food. Don’t let it drag on. Don’t plan the party you want; plan the party the mother-to-be would want.
